Queerness as a horizon became deeply embedded in my work after reading Cruising Utopia by José Esteban Muñoz. In this book, Muñoz challenges the notion of queerness as something tangible, arguing that it cannot fully exist in the present due to it being a stagnant state. Instead, he urges the reader to dream of a future where queerness flourishes beyond the constraints of the now.
Inspired by his ideas, my work translates these concepts into a short animation of a sun hovering over the horizon. It is shifting yet never fully arriving. Dashes of stars emerge, saturated in a holographic gradient over the cemented background. The video is layered with a 3D texture which gives the illusion of materiality, yet remains untouchable.
